Market note: Founded in 1743, Moët & Chandon is now, under LVMH, the world's largest Champagne house. Impérial Rosé, launched in 1996, is the house's standard rosé — a tier below the prestige cuvée Dom Pérignon and below grower Champagnes. Against the other Champagnes covered in this magazine, Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label (4.5), Dom Pérignon 2008 (5.0) and Charles Dauteuil Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru (4.5) all rank above this rosé (3.5).
What this wine is
Founded by Claude Moët in 1743, the house became famous through Napoleon's patronage and, after merging with Hennessy in 1971, is now the world's largest Champagne house under LVMH. Impérial Rosé Brut is the rosé version of the house's flagship Impérial Brut, launched in 1996.
The blend runs 40–50% Pinot Noir, 30–40% Pinot Meunier and 10–20% Chardonnay, with about 20% still red Pinot Noir wine blended in for color and red-fruit character — the assemblage method. Dosage is 9 g/L, alcohol 12.5%. The producer describes it as "lovely, aromatic and expressive," with a round, intense palate of fruit and floral notes and a subtle peppery edge.
What the world says
Decanter's Anne Krebiehl MW scored it 90 in March 2020: "A very fruity, ready, vivid nose" of cherry and red apple, with a palate that's "very light, juicy, foamy, easy and fresh" and "a soft body" that stays "rounded, pliable and supple" (drinking window 2020–2021). Vivino also carries several unnamed critic entries scored 83–96, some dating back to 1993.
The Vivino community of 32,773 averages 4.1, with 79% at 4 stars or above. Keywords run strawberry, raspberry, cherry; citrus, lemon, grapefruit; apple, peach; cream, yeast; brioche, toast — a bright, yeasty profile typical of a standard rosé Champagne. Structure: acidity 4.2 and fizziness 4.3, both very high, with intensity at 3.7.

How I drank it
November 28, 2019, 3.5 stars. The note is six words: "Pear, toast, a little bit cherry."
Earlier that month, on November 13, I gave Veuve Clicquot Brut (Carte Jaune) NV a 4.5 and a Charles Dauteuil Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru NV a 4.5, and on December 1 I gave Dom Pérignon 2008 a 5.0. Of the four Champagnes covered in this magazine, Impérial Rosé's 3.5 is the lowest.
My 3.5 sits 0.6 below the Vivino community's 4.1, though it points the same direction as Decanter's 90 — both read it as light and pleasant rather than exceptional. No re-tasting is on record.
