What this wine is
Moscato d'Asti and Asti Spumante are often confused, but they're made differently. The light, low-alcohol style we know as Moscato d'Asti today traces back to 1898, when Federico Martinotti of Asti patented a sealed, low-temperature tank-fermentation method (the autoclave). Later rediscovered in France as the "Charmat method," this technique lets winemakers stop the second fermentation early, leaving behind roughly 5% alcohol, residual sugar and a gentle fizz — the Moscato d'Asti we drink today. Asti Spumante uses the same Moscato Bianco grape but carries fermentation further, giving stronger bubbles and higher alcohol. A production consortium set the boundaries in 1932, and the wine was elevated to DOCG status in 1993.
The winery behind this bottle, Ca' Bianca, opened in 1952 in Alice Bel Colle, in the Alto Monferrato area near Acqui Terme, in Piemonte's Alessandria province. It's headquartered at Cascina Spagna, a farmstead with roots dating to the 1620s, and in August 1997 it added the nine-hectare Cascina Polsino vineyard. Today Ca' Bianca is part of Gruppo Italiano Vini (GIV), Italy's largest wine group, producing wines across several appellations in Monferrato and the Langhe.
This site has covered another Moscato d'Asti before — Natale Verga (4.5 stars), a small négociant based in Cermenate, Lombardy. Both share the same grape and low-alcohol style, but where Natale Verga buys in grapes from outside Asti and bottles them, Ca' Bianca is a producer with its own vineyards and a long history right inside Alto Monferrato.

The flavor keywords lead with a tree-fruit group — apple, peach, pear — at 179 mentions, followed by an earthy group of honey and minerals (65) and citrus led by lemon (44). Structure: acidity 2.7, intensity 2.5, fizziness 1.2 — the lightest, gentlest profile of any sparkling wine covered on this site, a completely different weight class from Champagnes like Krug (fizziness 4.2) or Dom Pérignon.

How I drank it
"Pale apple juice color. Peach, apricot, apple, pear, honey, cheese, yogurt flavor. Tropical fruit jam aroma. Bought it casually, on a whim... turned out really good! A wine that puts you in a good mood." 18 January 2020, 4.0 stars. The heart of this note is unexpected satisfaction from a wine bought without much thought — the careful color, aroma and flavor notes suggest a bottle opened casually that turned into a genuinely pleasant surprise.
The cheese and yogurt notes I wrote overlap with Vivino's dairy-and-yeast group (13 mentions), and peach, apricot, apple and pear line up exactly with the top tree-fruit keywords. My 4.0 is a touch above the Vivino community average of 3.9, though half a point below the 4.5 I gave Natale Verga — two Moscato d'Asti wines on this site so far, both generously scored, both in the same easy-drinking, low-alcohol lane.
